What is ScriptEd?
Founded in 2012, ScriptEd is a nonprofit organization that aims to increase access to opportunities in tech that are otherwise unavailable by offering computer programming classes in under resourced schools. ScriptEd’s courses are taught by experienced computer programming professionals on a volunteer basis, ensuring that students not only have exposure to the most up-to-date knowledge available, but also exposure to role models and potential mentors in the field. In addition, students are linked to internship opportunities where they apply their newfound coding skills in a professional setting.
What do we teach?
ScriptEd’s Foundations course is a year long curriculum that introduces students to the fundamentals of Front End Web Development. Our second year students take a course in Back End Web Development.
What is the volunteer commitment?
ScriptEd classes are held twice weekly throughout the school year. Depending on your school placement, classes are held either in the morning during the school day (approximately 8:00 am – 9:30 am), or during after-school hours (approximately 3:30 to 5:00 pm). Time varies by school. To allow for flexibility in your volunteer commitment, we place approximately 4 volunteers at each school. Volunteers must commit to teach either one or two days per week. Each school will have a designated Lead Volunteer.
